Connect SkillStack's MCP server to Claude Code or Cursor in two minutes — search skills, pull full SKILL.md files, and fetch prompts without leaving your editor.

Connect SkillStack to Claude Code and Cursor via MCP
SkillStack now ships an MCP server. Connect it once, and your AI editor can search the whole skill library, pull full SKILL.md files, and fetch prompts — without you ever opening the website.
This guide takes about two minutes.
What you get
- search_skills — search skills by keyword, category or tag
- get_skill — fetch the complete SKILL.md for a skill
- search_prompts / get_prompt — search and fetch image & video prompts
- list_packs / get_pack — browse prompt packs
Free content works immediately. Paid skills and prompts follow the same rules as the website: if you've bought them (or have an active subscription), your agent can read the full text. Otherwise it gets a preview teaser.
Step 1 — Create an API token
- Sign in to SkillStack.
- Open your avatar menu → API Tokens.
- Give the token a name (e.g. "Claude Code on MacBook") and create it.
- Copy it now — it's shown only once. We store only a hash, so we can't show it again.
Treat it like a password. You can revoke it anytime from the same page.
Step 2a — Claude Code
Run this in your terminal, replacing the token:
claude mcp add --transport http skillstack https://skillstackhq.com/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer sksp_…"Then run claude, type /mcp, and check that skillstack is connected.
Step 2b — Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code
Add a custom MCP server:
- URL:
https://skillstackhq.com/api/mcp - Header:
Authorization: Bearer sksp_…(your token)
Any other MCP client works the same way — it's standard Streamable HTTP.
Try it
Ask your agent things like:
- "Search SkillStack for a skill about code review"
- "Get the full SKILL.md for systematic-debugging"
- "Find video prompts about cinematic portraits"
Your agent will call the right tool and bring the content into context automatically.
How paid content works over MCP
- Anonymous / no token: search works, free full text works, paid items return a locked notice + 300-character teaser.
- Token, item purchased or subscription active: full text, same as on the website.
- Token, item not purchased: still locked. Buy it on the site (or subscribe) and it unlocks immediately — no need to touch the MCP setup.
Token safety
- Only the SHA-256 hash is stored on our side.
- Tokens are long-lived; rotate them occasionally.
- If one leaks, revoke it on the API Tokens page — it stops working instantly.
- You can have up to 10 active tokens.
FAQ
Does MCP access cost extra? No. It uses your existing purchases and subscription. Searching and free content need nothing at all.
Can I use it in scripts? Yes — it's just HTTPS with a Bearer token. Keep the token server-side, never in client-side code.
Something not working? Revoke the token and create a fresh one, then re-add the server in your editor. If the server itself is unreachable, check the MCP landing page for status and the exact endpoint URL.
