Readonly Question
SkillStack Official
Ask anything about a codebase without changing a single file. A read-only /question mode for coding agents: evidence with file and line numbers, a proposed diff that is written out but never applied, and a verifiable 'No files were changed' footer. Understand the code first — change it only when you explicitly say so.
Using readonly-question, answer this without changing anything: why does the refresh-token check reject tokens issued before the last deploy?
What you get
- A complete read-only question mode: the 4-rule read-only contract (read tools only, answer + evidence + unapplied diff, signed footer, escape hatch), a 7-step workflow from restating the question to verifying nothing changed, evidence and diff formatting rules, escalation guidance, and a worked fictional example. A demo page shows a full sample answer: a refresh-token question traced through 5 code hops with citations and a proposed diff marked NOT APPLIED.
Good fit
- Developers who want answers about a codebase before anyone touches it; teams onboarding engineers or agents onto code they must not yet modify; anyone reviewing a pull request or diagnosing a failure who wants evidence, not experiments on live code.
Not for
- Anyone who wants the change applied — this skill deliberately never edits. Also note the honest limit: the SKILL.md is instructions, not a physical lock; a determined agent or shell workaround can still write, and real enforcement needs permissions or a sandbox. What this skill guarantees is ask-without-changing plus a verifiable 'No files were changed' footer, not absolute inability to modify files.

1. Download the ZIP
Use the button above to download the packaged skill. It contains the SKILL.md plus all supporting files.
2. Unzip into your agent's skills folder
Extract the archive so that SKILL.md sits directly inside a folder named after the skill:
unzip readonly-question-vv1.0.0.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/readonly-question/Skills folder per agent
